This was originally written to be used for small group discussions. I believe it can be used for individual study. I am posting this for small group study using a social meeting app like WEBEX or ZOOM which during the COVID-19 pandemic is being offered for free use. If you want more lessons, or want this in pdf for download, let me know and I'll see what I can do.

Something
to discuss:
·
Jesus
used the imagery of a tree bearing fruit in reference to the Pharisees and the
branch connected to the vine bearing fruit in reference to His disciples. Discuss how these differ. What might describe Judas? How might you be described most times?
·
Discuss
the “fruit” of the Pharisees, bearing fruit of the True Vine, and the fruit of
the Spirit resulting from “walking by the Spirit” (Galatians 5:16 – 23).
Example, are some equated with works, works done with differing attitudes? The
fruit of the Spirit may be internal to a person. Fruit of the Spirit may be the
internal attitude which becomes outwardly obvious in works. These works may be
menial tasks done with great joy or going through hardship with a sense of
peace.
FYI
on Galatians from Wikipedia: Catholic tradition follows the Vulgate version
of Galatians in listing 12 fruits: charity, joy, peace, patience, benignity
(kindness), goodness, longanimity (forbearance), mildness (gentleness), faith,
modesty, continency (self-control), and chastity. CHALLENGE: For extra study, learn what the
“Vulgate” is. Does this make a
difference to your understanding of this passage?
