Today, I am just going to note some passages that I've written down the last few days. I may add a note or two but then, maybe not.
2 Samuel 18: 1-3 NLT David now mustered the men who were with him and appointed generals and captains to lead them. He sent the troops out in three groups, placing one group under Joab, one under Joab’s brother Abishai son of Zeruiah, and one under Ittai, the man from Gath. The king told his troops, “I am going out with you.” But his men objected strongly. “You must not go,” they urged. “If we have to turn and run—and even if half of us die—it will make no difference to Absalom’s troops; they will be looking only for you. You are worth 10,000 of us,......"
For some reason, when I read this passage this morning, I thought of the contrast with the disciples deserting Jesus when they arrested Him.
Ephesians 1:17 I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know him better.
I said this as a prayer for myself - "Give me the Spirit of wisdom and revelation so that I many know You better, oh, Lord Jesus. Amen
Acts 17:26 From one man he made every nation of men, that they should inhabit the whole earth; and he determined the times set for them and the exact places where they should live.
I never thought about God setting for me the "exact places where [I] should live". Amazing.
Mark 1:1 The beginning of the gospel about Jesus Christ, the Son of God,
This stuck me as very interesting. The Gospel of Mark, likely the first gospel written, is only the beginning of the good news of Jesus Christ. I suppose we are a continuation of that good news!
Daniel 9:18 Give ear, O God, and hear; open your eyes and see the desolation of the city that bears your Name. We do not make requests of you because we are righteous, but because of your great mercy.
It is only because of God's mercy that we are saved. Thank you, Jesus. Amen.
John 15:20b -21 If they persecuted me [Jesus], they will persecute you also. If they obeyed my teaching, they will obey yours also. They will treat you this way because of my name, for they do not know the One who sent me...
I wonder if this is why Christianity now seems under attach in the United States. We should have expected it, huh?
Thank you, Father, for the tremendous gift of scripture. Forgive us for not treating it as we should. Help me to study it and learn the lessons You have there for me. Amen.
