1 Corinthians 2:9b “What no eye has seen,
what no ear has heard,
and what no human mind has conceived”—
the things God has prepared for those who love him—
what no ear has heard,
and what no human mind has conceived”—
the things God has prepared for those who love him—
As I think about friends who are living with the flood damage, and the aftermath of the death of Usama bin Laden, and devastating illnesses of people I know, I wonder about God's imagination. I just watched a few minutes of a show about a photographer taking pictures of the Mohave Desert. It is a barren landscape with a lot of texture and shadows and sand. At first glimpse, all one sees is the same color of sand piled into various shapes, but still very bland. What about God's imagination here? Think of the creation story of Genesis and the escape store in Exodus. Think of the grand miracles (calling dead Lazarus from his 4 day old tomb) and the "small" miracles (See 2 Kings 13:21 Once while some Israelites were burying a man, suddenly they saw a band of raiders; so they threw the man’s body into Elisha’s tomb. When the body touched Elisha’s bones, the man came to life and stood up on his feet.) Think of the various ways that God uses to communicate with people - in the "still small voice" and in burning bushes and doves landing on Jesus after he was baptized.
We don't know what God has planned. Oh, we think we have some clue because of what we believe is unfulfilled prophesy in the Bible, but we really don't know anything. Maybe this verse in 1 Corinthians explains it to us.
“What no eye has seen,
what no ear has heard,
and what no human mind has conceived”—
the things God has prepared....
what no ear has heard,
and what no human mind has conceived”—
the things God has prepared....
We aren't supposed to know. We are to trust and rely on God's imagination and promises. If a person can't look all around them, wherever they are, and see that God's imagination is far beyond what any of us can imagine - even our collective imaginations- that person is fooling themselves. God is God for a reason - His imagination and creativity is indescribable. We can't know what all the events that take place are all about, but we can know that God's got it covered!
And Thank You God, that it is. Amen
