Mark 5:28-30 NLT For she thought to herself, “If I can just touch his robe, I will be healed.” 29 Immediately the bleeding stopped, and she could feel in her body that she had been healed of her terrible condition.
30 Jesus realized at once that healing power had gone out from him, so he turned around in the crowd and asked, “Who touched my robe?”
Which part of this story stirs you? I don't know what surprises me the most. Is it that the woman knew just a touch of Jesus' robe would heal her? Is it that Jesus "realized at once that healing power had gone out from him"? I think perhaps it is that the woman knew that power flowed through Jesus.
Do you remember playing the game as a child where one person could be "on base" or "touching base" and everyone else would be considered "on base" if they just touched a person who was touching a person who was "on base"? We said that "we had electricity" even if we stretched out for a full length of the back yard! If a person who hadn't been tagged yet touched any of the players who had electricity (back to base) we were all freed to start running again! What fun that was!!

Now I think of that childhood game when I think of the "electricity" that flowed through Jesus and His robe to free this woman from her illness. Does the same type of power flow through Jesus through us to free others from what binds them? The point I want to make is that the same power that flowed through Jesus then is still available today. As Christians, it is necessary for us to stay connected to this power through other Christians, through prayer, through devotions, through reading Scripture, through worship and praise, and through participation with other Christians in mission and ministry and worship. There are probably other ways as well. The point is we need to stay connected to Christ. We can be the "electrical current" that God uses to power others to action and to salvation or perhaps even healings.
Dear Jesus, Help me to depend on you as my "on base" so that I am charged and ready for action. Help me where I fail to provide power for others to see You. For it is without Your help that all things are possible. Amen.
