John 14:13 "And I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son."
John 14:31a "but he comes so that the world may learn that I love the Father and do exactly what my Father has commanded me."
I'm not trying to imply that Jesus doesn't love me or you. But He loves the Father more, actually the most of anything or anyone else. He endured what he endured because of his love for God. He loved God and had to demonstrate that immense love by being completely obedient no matter what. Jesus' purpose was to glorify God. This means that Jesus died on the cross to demonstrate his love (and obedience) for God. He didn't do it because he loves me. I am not saying that Jesus doesn't love me. I am saying that He loved God enough that He obeyed unto death. His love for me would not cause him to obey me.
I learn two lessons from these two verses in John. 1) I am supposed to do everything I can to bring glory to God. Everything I do should be something that will bring glory to God. I don't know how to do that for everything I do. I am working on that. 2) Jesus loves God. And so should I. I am supposed to demonstrate my love for God by obeying Him completely, even unto death. In doing everything to bring glory to Him, I am obeying and demonstrating my love for Him. Ah, if I could just get that in my attitude when I'm doing something I don't want to do!!
To God be the glory.
To God be the glory.
To God be the glory for the things He has done.
But Jesus is God, so He did do it for you!
