Psalm 71:17-18 Since my youth, O God, you have taught me,
and to this day I declare your marvelous deeds.
and to this day I declare your marvelous deeds.
Even when I am old and gray,
do not forsake me, O God,
till I declare your power to the next generation,
your might to all who are to come.
do not forsake me, O God,
till I declare your power to the next generation,
your might to all who are to come.
I am so blessed and thankful that the generations before me have "declared [God's] power to the next generation". I would know nothing of God or His Son, Jesus if those before me had not passed it on.
When I was younger, or maybe I should say when I was less mature in my faith, I had the misguided thought that my relationship with God was personal, confidential. That is true, except that I also thought it was no one's business. That is not true. It is other people's business that I have a relationship with God. It is their business because they need to know Jesus too. How will they know if we don't tell them?
So I need to thank those who taught me, led me, demonstrated to me and reflected God's love for me to see. (Ray Boltz did a wonderful song that does just that.) And my responsibility is recorded in Psalm 71:17-18. Even when I am old and gray,....I declare your power to the next generation, your might to all who are to come. Others have given to me. I need to pass it on.
Thank You God for pillars of the faith, those persons in my life who have formed my knowledge of You and contributed to me getting into a relationship with You. I ask that You use me to pass it along to the next generation so that others will know Your might. The world needs more people in relationship with You. You are worthy to be spoken of often. Amen.
