For the last two weeks, I've been driving past various cornfields. I can't explain why they caught my attention. I've lived here all my life and have seen cornfields all around me forever. They were next to the factory where I worked. They cover both sides of the roads on various road trips. Perhaps it is the time of year that put them in the right condition for me to notice them. If you didn't know what a cornfield looked like, you could have guessed this was one.
This one particular field, which is just below the level of the road, was perfect, by its symmetry, the sameness of each stalk, the consistency of color and placement of the ears. The stalks were green. The ears were a golden bushy yellow. The ears were exactly in the same place on each the stalk. It was like the ears were placed exactly this far from the ground, this far from the next ear, and colored just perfectly to contrast against the stalk and leaves. I didn't have a camera with me and the color of the stalk and leaves changed quickly so I wasn't able to get a picture. The one I used for this post is as close as I could find.
I don't know anything about cornfields, or how to identify a good crop versus a bad crop. I don't know if a field has had enough water or too much. I don't know if the farmer will be happy to harvest this field or if he will be disappointed.
I do know though that the rows were perfectly straight and the ears were at exactly the same place on the stalk. I'm pretty sure that has nothing to do with the farmer, or rather the earthly farmer. The ultimate farmer, God, probably put those ears in the same place to make it easier on the earthly farmer. Looking at these rows of corn stalks, the plan of God's creation was impressed upon me. God is not random. God created order to this creation of His, even in the corn fields. Ecclesiastes 3 tells us that there is a time for everything and a season for every activity. This is all part of God's creative order. It is not random. Things do not just happen. God has a plan, an order, a precise timing. God is not random and does not act in a random manner. We can count on that.
Thank you Creator for the precise system You created. Help us to look for or at least accept the precision with which Your creation operates. Maybe this way, we can be more grateful and respond accordingly. Amen.
Did you know the average ear of corn has 800 kernels, arranged in 16 rows. There is always an even number of rows. There is one piece of silk for each kernel. Each tassel on a corn plant releases as many as 5 million grains of pollen.
ReplyDeleteFor sure God has a plan, an order, and precise timing!! God is Good, All the time!!! -DE
