On Tuesday, I wrote a post about Psalm 71 saying that we are to pass along what we know about God to the next generation. On Wednesday, the post was from Ezekiel saying that we should continue to pass along God's love and our knowledge of Him regardless of whether anyone listens or not.
Then I read Hebrews 2:1-4. "We must pay more careful attention, therefore, to what we have heard, so that we do not drift away. For if the message spoken by angels was binding, and every violation and disobedience received its just punishment, how shall we escape if we ignore such a great salvation? This salvation, which was first announced by the Lord, was confirmed to us by those who heard him. God also testified to it by signs, wonders and various miracles, and gifts of the Holy Spirit distributed according to his will."
Now to be really honest about this, I didn't see the connection, until I looked at the Bible Study we are starting on Miracles. One of the questions is about the chain of individuals through which the message of salvation comes. Notice: the message was first announced by the Lord. Then by those who heard him (the apostles and disciples and others who witnessed a risen Lord), then by us, who are to carry on the message. Jesus said he was the salvation prophesied in the Old Testament. The apostles and disciples heard Jesus' message. They then witnessed the prophesy fulfilled when Jesus was raised. Then they told and told and told. They told everyone who'd listen and many who did not. Those who listened told others who told others until the message was delivered to our generation. Now we are to continue telling.
That's our job today in this era. Tell our children, our grandchildren. Tell the children in the neighborhood. Tell the school-age children who knock on our doors selling fund-raising trinkets for their schools and clubs. Tell the children at church and at the grocery store. A simple "Jesus loves you" is a great start. Let's keep up the tradition started by Jesus until all are saved, or Jesus comes again, whichever comes first! AMEN.
