Ephesians 2:10 "For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them."
I am not an artist. I don't "create" things. I dabble at this blog but that is the extent of my creative endeavors. I can't imagine how I'd feel about real works of art. I have heard of artists having places in their hearts for the pieces they create. I have seen price tags on pieces of art that blow my mind. I have thought, "boy, they are proud of THAT piece." So obviously I do not have an idea how one feels about their creation. This is a point lost on me.
This is similar to ours. |
The point that I do get though is that God created me. I am not a result of some scientifically or medically explained event. That fascinates me. I am intrigued by what an artist or craftsman creates. I see a desk and understand its purpose. But I don't understand the point of many other craft pieces. We bought a large pottery piece a few years ago as a reminder of a trip. It was made by an artist of that area. That met our purpose. It looks cool - at least to us. That met our purpose. People see it and ask how it got broken. It is a large vase - that requires a stand because the bottom is NOT flat. It has cracks and overlapping pieces throughout. It won't hold water. It is vase that has to be in a stand and it won't hold water. Not much of a vase, huh? But it met our purposes as a reminder of the trip and the creator (potter) made a little from creating it. We are God's workmanship. He values us as His creation because He is the Master Artist, the Master Creator. He created us for a purpose and that purpose has nothing to do with God's making a living. He made us for something special. No matter what we are like, we are God's workmanship. And continually, God is working on us. We may not like what He's doing at a given time, like when we lose a friend, get sick, or some other distasteful thing. But we have to take comfort in the fact that we are God's workmanship and he is still working on us.
THANK YOU. amen.
