2 Peter 1:3-4 His divine power has granted to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of him who calls us to his own glory and excellence.Through these he has given us his very great and precious promises, so that through them you may participate in the divine nature and escape the corruption in the world caused by evil desires.
I want to ponder on this. "His" must refer to God and/or Jesus Christ because He is the only one with divine anything. "His divine power has granted" Using God's divine power, the same power that over came and overcomes death, Christ has granted. What has He granted? ALL things that pertain to life and godliness.
Think of that a moment. God through Jesus is using His awesome, divine power to grant us ALL things that pertain to life and godliness. It has already been granted to us. The passage does not say "will grant", but says "has granted", past tense. It has already happened.
This divine power has already granted ALL things that pertain to life and godliness to those called. I am granted all things that pertain to eternal life, to a life in the Kingdom, in Heaven, with God. I have been granted (given, pardoned) everything that I need for life with Christ, both here in this life and in the next. I am granted continually. That is the hard to grasp thing about the verb "to be", or I AM. It is continual. It is an ever-going, was-going, will-be-going, on-going process.
I heard a comment on Saturday about being perfected in Christ. Each moment we are perfect (as perfect as we can be for that moment) and getting more perfect with each moment in our relationship with Him. He is continually GRANTING ALL THINGS that pertain to life and godliness. So we are perfect in Christ and getting more perfect in Christ all at the same time.
I have no excuse for not living a godly life. I have already been granted ALL things that pertain to life and godliness. Things that are granted include "the knowledge of Him who called us to His own glory and excellence". Because each experience makes me more knowledgeable of Christ and His kingdom and His power and His purposes, I become more and more perfect in Christ. I am not perfect. I am perfected in my relationship with Christ at any given moment, until I am His image in His glory and His excellence, until all of my image is transformed into that of Christ. After all, His divine power has granted to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of him who calls us to his own glory and excellence.Through these he has given us his very great and precious promises, so that through them you may participate in the divine nature and escape the corruption in the world caused by evil desires.
This is a promise I can take to the grave. I can escape the corruption of the world. I can participate in the divine nature, being perfected in Christ. His diving power grants this to all who are called.
AMEN.
