Update: someone DID notice that I vacuumed the carpet. WOW Thanks, God for that.
Now today's post: After I read the previous post, it occurred to me that someone could read something there that I did not intend. I don't think that God makes bad things happen. God is good All the time and God is goodness. He cannot do bad things. He can let bad things happen. That's part of freewill.
Let me back up. The first post entitled Notice Anything was about thanking God for doing things for me that I rarely notice, like not falling and breaking my leg when I stub my toe, or when I don't see the deer on the side of the road until after I've passed it and didn't hit it. We are to thank God for all things and those are examples of things I think I should thank God for but often do not because I don't notice them, or recognize them as gifts from God.
Now, just because I do hit the deer, or do break my leg, or everything does fall from my upturned purse, doesn't mean that God did some mean thing to me, or bad thing, or anything negative. Because God cannot do bad things. It is completely against His nature.
That's doesn't mean that we can understand why "bad" things happen. I've already posted something on this called "God Is good" so I won't rehash that. One thing is clear. We should thank God for things seen and unseen. We should recognize that all good is from God and that God can make good from anything "bad".
Additionally, we should be thankful in all circumstances. 1 Thessalonians 5:18 (NIV) says "give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus." So, be thankful all the time, and rest assured that God has it under control.
Dear Jesus, Thank you for all my circumstances and forgive me when I grumble about things. Help me turn from that tendency and turn toward thankfulness. With Your help, I can do it. Amen.
