Presently, I am able to spend a lot of time on daily devotion. I am currently reading/praying using 4 different materials; Daily Bible, 31 Days of Praying for your Pastor, the Upper Room Daily Devotional, and Jesus Calling by Sarah Young. I know it sounds like a lot but it really isn't all that much. It probably takes less than 30 minutes of reading (plus quiet prayer time). One thing I find interesting about this is that as diverse as these readings are, frequently there is a common theme picked up between two or more of them. Of course, that tells me that I better pay attention.
Today, the Upper Room and Jesus Calling have a similar theme. The Upper Room scripture reading is Psalm 46 which includes verse 10: Be Still, and know that I am God. The message in Jesus Calling is to know that God is God and that He is in control. If we just spend quality time with God, (Be still) we will recognize that God's got everything under control, even if it feels like everything is out of control.
I'm in the midst of several possible job opportunities. I have no job offers but have a few possibilities for interviews and it feels like I will have a job in the next month or so. I am conflicted about this. I like spending time on these 4 devotions, as well as writing a blog, as well as planning and studying for Bible Studies and other activities. How will I fit in a job? I don't know.....but God is in control. I need to just Be Still and Know that [God is God].
Father God, I humbly ask that the job I am ultimately offered is one that You choose for me. I ask that I know You have chosen it because of a peace that you give me about the offer. May it somehow bring glory to You. Amen.
