I found out this weekend that a family that I know is experiencing some devastating medical news about one of their children. I knew about this and had prayed for the situation before but as things go, it left my mind and I haven't thought or prayed about it for a while. Well, just the other day, after hearing the turmoil that the family is experiencing, I prayed for a miracle.
Some members of the family are Christ-followers. They say they'd never have made it through what they've made it through so far if they weren't depending on Jesus. Other members of the family are not. So my prayer is simply that God would bring complete miraculous healing to the child - before the next trip to the doctor or treatment - so there is no explanation other than the Great Healer cured their child and that all symptoms are gone.
I figure that will bring the most glory to God and peace to the family. Oh, that was the other part of the prayer, that the parents feel complete peace as soon as they notice the complete absence of symptoms. This is an all out unexplained, not to be refuted, miraculous cure for the whole family. Child healed of disease. Parents overcome with peace knowing that the child is cured. Other family members are dumbfounded about the miraculous cure so that they can only thank God and accept that He is who He says He is.
Is this risky? Some would say so. I am not saying I am doing the healing because of my prayer or that my prayer is any more special than any others. I am saying I have the gift of faith. I have already said Thank You to God for His answer to this prayer for a miracle. I don't know if/when I'll know when they figure out that their child is healed. I don't know if I'll ever know if the family members come to Jesus as a result of this healing. And it is possible that God will use a different way of healing the family. He is far more creative than I can ever imagine. But I do know that God tells us to ask so I did. He tells us to bring Him glory. That is my goal with this prayer. He says to be fishers of men. That's what I'm trying to do. He tells us to pray without ceasing. So I am. Please join me in praying for a miracle for this family to God's glory.
Great Healer, please demonstrate your great power and compassion upon this family who is struggling with non-believers in their midst and a child with a harsh prognosis. Bring peace to the parents and child as you take away the cause of the symptom and the symptoms themselves. Make it obvious to the family that the child is cured, miraculously so that the non-believers will believe and accept. Do all this for Your glory and your kingdom. In Jesus' name. Amen.
